Digital Citizenship - 702 In my 5th grade classroom, I aim to give my students as many opportunities to use technology as possible to engage and connect them in new ways. With these opportunities, comes a great deal of responsibility both on my part and my student’s part. My responsibility lies in teaching them to be safe and respectful digital citizens. Their responsibility lies in learning and exercising what it means to be a safe, respectful and responsible digital citizen. To accomplish this, I am planning to do the following.

I love the idea of students learning how to blog which gives them an authentic writing audience, but I had never thought about the added benefit of learning how to comment on someone else's blog in a constructive/respectful way. The graphic you used above would be a powerful tool as well for students to use as a mental (or even written) checklist to ensure they are respectful digital citizens.

Jenny, I really like your info-graphic, I appreciate that you are instilling this reflective piece at this critical age. I can imagine that the "commenting appropriately" would need to be scaffold-ed in a big way. This is a big task and I appreciate that you are taking the plunge!

Wow Jenny, it looks like you know exactly what you want and what you're going to be doing with your kids. I now that the Digital Passport lessons are great for the kids because we are also using them at our school. Doing the lesson combined with the blogging will definitely get your kids ready for Middle School!
